I know it's not the same thing, but my parents (Well, Mom) pulled the same act over my wedding. We told people that we were going to the Justice of the Peace for over a year before we actually did it. This upset her so much that she not only called me, several times, crying about how disappointed she was, but she called everyone in my family to tell them not to mention my name or my husband's name to her. We didn't speak for months and months. It's horrible and awkward, but stand your ground.
ReplyDeleteOh, Wendy. I can only relate so well. I am so sorry that your beautiful island bliss had to be interrupted by drama. Unreasonable demands placed on others is just that - unreasonable. Children become adults and parents need to respect that. Adult children are no longer at the whim of their parents. That is not to sound selfish, but rather practical. You can't rely on others to do things that make you happy.
